Leighton Buzzard Market

Description

The main market is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays with a Farmers' Market visiting on the third Saturday of every month.

Full control of the market is now back in the hands of Leighton-Linslade Town Council with Market and High Street manager Aidan Marnell appointed to steer proceedings.

Since taking up his post on April 2, 2012, Aidan has been busy putting plans in place to bring the market back to its once bustling hub.

Ideas in the pipeline include the introduction of a craft market on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Also building on the popularity of the visiting French market, he plans to invite an Italian equivalent along with a travelling pot fair.

Entertainment to add vibrancy into the High Street is also highlighted.

Other plans on the drawing board include closing the High Street to traffic on market days and turning the stalls to face each other so all stalls can be seen.

Data collected over the years suggested traders on the ‘shady side’ of the High Street have mentioned that they do not share the foot traffic of the ‘sunny side’. Aidan plans to change this.

Overall, the one thing Aidan wants to encourage is support. He said: "Come and support the market and the bigger it will grow."

If you have not yet visited the market. Please come and have a look and sample one of Bedfordshire's original street markets. Once visited, please take the time and email us to let us know what type of experience you had (good or bad!). Your thoughts will be noted and appreciated.
